Chef Cozinheiro do Ano 2019
In 2019, Chef António Queiroz Pinto presented the challenge of creating a set of special plates for the final of the Chef of the Year competition. United by enthusiasm and a touch of naivety, we embraced the challenge of producing illustrative plates for each of the recipes entered in the competition. The thirty plates were imagined and produced in about a month and a half—an almost impossible deadline during a rainy April. Once production was already underway, we received the news that the plates had to be entirely white. Unaware of the difficulties ahead, we moved forward with white porcelain, an incredibly beautiful yet demanding material. The challenge was overcome, and the studio produced plates for each of the competing recipes—pieces that forever marked Karolinne Ceramics: “Para lá do Marão mandam os que lá estão”, “Mar”, “Renda da Avó”, “Ovo”, and “Bazulaque”, named in homage to the recipe served on it. The competition was fierce, and our beloved chef was awarded the Helmut Ziebell Innovation Prize for his dessert.
